REV-POSITIVEWarning (W)
Negative revenue in a resource
CDE's wordingRevenue (objects 8000-8979) has a negative balance in the following resources, by fund.
Warning. CDE accepts it with an explanation entered in the TRC explanations.
What it means
Negative revenue in a resource
By fund and resource, revenue objects 8000-8979 should net positive. A negative total means reversals or refunds exceeded the year's revenue in that resource.
Why it fires
The usual causes
- A prior-year receivable reversed against current year revenue with little new revenue
- A refund to the grantor
- Revenue posted to the wrong resource, so the right one shows only reversals
How to fix it
The repair
- Post prior-year adjustments to the prior year adjustment objects where CDE provides them, rather than to current year revenue.
- Move misposted revenue to the resource that earned it.
- Explain a genuine refund.
