UNASSIGNED-NEGATIVEFatal (F)

Unassigned balance in a fund that must classify it

CDE's wordingUnassigned/Unappropriated balance (Object 9790) is greater than zero in the following resources by fund. Positive balances, in funds other than the general fund and funds 61 through 95, must be reported as restricted, committed, or assigned.

Fatal. The Official Export will not run until it is cleared.

What it means

Unassigned balance in a fund that must classify it

Outside the general fund and funds 61-95, a positive balance cannot sit in unassigned (9790). Special revenue, capital and debt funds must report their balances as restricted (9740), committed (9750, 9760) or assigned (9780).

Why it fires

The usual causes

  • A special revenue or capital fund's balance left in 9790 by default
  • A restricted resource in Fund 13, 21, 25, 40 or similar whose 9740 was never keyed
How to fix it

The repair

  • Classify the balance: 9740 for a restricted resource, 9780 (or a committed object) for an unrestricted one, so 9790 is zero.
  • Re-extract and reimport.
