A negative fund balance component
CDE's wordingComponents of Ending Fund Balance/Net Position (objects 9700-9789) must be positive individually by resource, by fund.
Fatal. The Official Export will not run until it is cleared.
What it means
A negative fund balance component
Each component of ending fund balance (9700-9789: nonspendable, restricted, committed, assigned, reserve for economic uncertainties) must be positive by fund and resource. A negative component is a classification error, not a deficit.
Why it fires
The usual causes
- Last year's components carried forward and not re-entered
- An assignment or reserve entered larger than the balance it classifies
- A restricted balance keyed with the wrong sign
How to fix it
The repair
- Re-enter the component at zero or at its correct positive amount; any shortfall belongs in unassigned (9790), or shows as a negative ending balance to be explained under EFB-POSITIVE.
