Technical review check

CHECKGOALFatal (F)

A goal code that isn't valid this year

CDE's wordingThe following codes for GOAL are not valid. Your general ledger data must be corrected and the data reimported.

Fatal. The Official Export will not run until it is cleared.

What it means

A goal code that isn't valid this year

Each goal is checked against CDE's list. Goals change less often than resources, so this usually points at a local goal that never got converted, or a rollup code used as if it were postable.

Why it fires

The usual causes

  • A locally defined goal outside CDE's local ranges, not rolled up in the export
  • A summary or rollup goal used on a transaction (the postable goals sit under it)
  • A typo in the goal segment
How to fix it

The repair

  • Find the rows, recode to the postable SACS goal, re-extract and reimport.
  • If a local goal is legitimate, map it to its SACS goal in the export crosswalk rather than on each entry.
In SACS Pre-Flight

What the tool shows

Lists the code with line numbers and the likely intended goal when it is one edit away.

See every check on your own file before the system runs them. Drop a SACS Other Export (.dat) into SACS Pre-Flight: findings with line numbers, free, entirely in your browser. The file never leaves your computer.

When CDE changes the technical review checks, hear about it once. A short note the week the new tables post, nothing else.
