Technical review check

CHK-FUNCTIONxOBJECTFatal (F)

An object that isn't allowed with that function

CDE's wordingThe following combinations for FUNCTION and OBJECT are invalid. Your general ledger data must be corrected and the data reimported. If you believe these account code combinations are valid, please contact the CDE for assistance.

Fatal. The Official Export will not run until it is cleared.

What it means

An object that isn't allowed with that function

The function by object matrix says which objects can be charged to which functions. Common fatal pairs: indirect cost objects on a program function, capital outlay on a function that cannot carry it, or a salary object on a function reserved for non-salary activity.

Why it fires

The usual causes

  • Object 7310 (indirect costs) charged to the program's own function instead of 7210
  • An object CDE limits to specific functions charged elsewhere
  • Capital outlay (6XXX) coded to an instructional function
How to fix it

The repair

  • Usually the function is what to change: recode to the function CDE pairs with the object (7210 for indirect cost credits, 8500 for facilities acquisition).
  • Occasionally the object is wrong instead; check which side of the pair the program's other entries use.
  • Re-extract and reimport.

What the tool shows

Lists each pair with line numbers and shows a correcting entry with a function already used in the file that the matrix allows with the object.

See every check on your own file before the system runs them. Drop a SACS Other Export (.dat) into SACS Pre-Flight: findings with line numbers, free, entirely in your browser. The file never leaves your computer.

When CDE changes the technical review checks, hear about it once. A short note the week the new tables post, nothing else.
