Technical review check

CHK-FUNDxOBJECTFatal (F)

An object that isn't allowed in that fund

CDE's wordingThe following combinations for FUND and OBJECT are invalid. These account code combinations will not display in the fund forms and will result in an incorrect calculated ending fund balance (Object 979Z), causing the fund forms to be out of balance with Object 979Z. Your general ledger data must be corrected and the data reimported. If you believe these account code combinations are valid, please contact the CDE for assistance.

Fatal. The Official Export will not run until it is cleared.

What it means

An object that isn't allowed in that fund

The fund by object matrix limits which objects can appear in each fund. CDE treats this as fatal because the pairing will not display on the fund form, which throws the form's calculated ending balance off from Object 979Z.

Why it fires

The usual causes

  • A revenue object that belongs to a different fund (LCFF objects outside the general fund family, cafeteria revenue in Fund 01)
  • Balance sheet or fund balance objects the fund does not use
  • A fund segment error
How to fix it

The repair

  • Recode the object to one the fund allows, or move the entry to the right fund.
  • If you believe the pairing is valid, CDE asks you to contact them before submission.

What the tool shows

Lists each pair with line numbers. Because fund and object define what the money is, the tool does not guess a substitute here; it shows where the rows are.

See every check on your own file before the system runs them. Drop a SACS Other Export (.dat) into SACS Pre-Flight: findings with line numbers, free, entirely in your browser. The file never leaves your computer.

When CDE changes the technical review checks, hear about it once. A short note the week the new tables post, nothing else.
