General administration charged to a program goal

CDE's wordingGeneral administration costs (functions 7200-7999, except 7210) have been direct-charged to an inappropriate goal. For all agencies, including single-program districts and joint powers agencies, costs direct-charged to general administration must have a goal that is Undistributed, Nonagency, or County Services to Districts (Goal 0000, 7100-7199, or 8600-8699). Your general ledger data must be corrected and reimported.

Fatal. The Official Export will not run until it is cleared.

What it means

General administration charged to a program goal

Functions 7200-7999 (except 7210) are general administration. CDE requires those costs to carry goal 0000 (Undistributed), 7100-7199 (Nonagency) or 8600-8699 (County Services to Districts). Direct-charging them to a program goal is fatal.

Why it fires

The usual causes

  • Board, superintendent or business office costs coded with an instructional or program goal
  • A district-wide charge allocated to programs by goal instead of through the indirect cost process
How to fix it

The repair

  • Recode the goal to 0000 on the general administration rows; re-extract and reimport.
  • If a program legitimately bears a share, charge it through indirect costs (7310), not by goal.

What the tool shows

Lists each pair with line numbers and shows the correcting entry to goal 0000.

See every check on your own file before the system runs them. Drop a SACS Other Export (.dat) into SACS Pre-Flight: findings with line numbers, free, entirely in your browser. The file never leaves your computer.
